Nunc Sonat is a macOS menu-bar app from Diligite Iustitiam LLC. The name is Latin for now it sounds. Now playing and the controls come from an Apple TV, a HomePod, Music on this Mac, or a Pilot-paired Mac. A Sonos, another AirPlay speaker, an iPhone, an iPad, or an AirPlay-receiver Mac is only an output that one of those devices can play to.

Free, with no license key: now playing (title, artist, album, artwork), the mini player and the menu-bar panel, play, pause, skip next and previous, seek, and the main volume. It works with an Apple TV, a HomePod (pairs with no PIN), and Music on this Mac. The playlist side panel can be opened and viewed. Premium controls are on screen, and locked.

Premium: send the controlled device to any AirPlay speaker and set volume per speaker, jump to a song in the playlist, lyrics, always on top, panel opacity, and Pilot. Pilot controls Music on another Mac running Nunc Sonat. Both Macs need Premium. Pair them with a 6-digit code. Each Mac uses one of the key’s 3 seats. $1.99/mo, $19.99/yr, or $39.99 once. No trial. A subscription keeps working offline for up to 7 days.

A notarized download. Not the Mac App Store.

What it does

• Now playing — title, artist, album, and artwork.
• Mini player and menu-bar panel — play, pause, skip next and previous, seek, and the main volume.
• What you see and control — Apple TV, HomePod (pairs with no PIN), and Music on this Mac. Pilot adds another Mac running Nunc Sonat.
• Playlist panel — open it and look. Click a row to play that song (Premium).
• Lyrics (Premium) — a local folder, the Music library, or LRCLIB, with synced highlighting when the file is timed.
• AirPlay outputs (Premium) — send the controlled device to a Sonos or any other AirPlay speaker, and set volume per speaker. The speaker does not have its own now playing. Another Mac’s speakers are only this kind of output.
• Panel (Premium) — always on top, and opacity.
• Pilot (Premium) — control Music on another Mac running Nunc Sonat. Both Macs need Premium. Pair with a 6-digit code. Each Mac uses one of the key’s 3 seats.
